Taps
Taps began as a revision to the signal for Extinguish Lights (Lights Out) at the end of the day. Up until the Civil War, the infantry call for Extinguish Lights was the one set down in Silas Casey’s (1801-1882) Tactics, which had been borrowed from the French. The music Taps was adapted by Union General Daniel Butterfield for his brigade (Third Brigade, First Division, Fifth Army Corps, Army of the Potomac) in July, 1862

| D Btry 6/71st Arty | SSG Norman Curtis Brubaker | 8 Dec 1945 | 15 May 1968 | Vietnam, Ninh Thuan Province |
Staff SGT Brubaker was the most outstanding enlisted soldier I ever served with in my 24+ years in the Army. He gave his life trying to help others. The villagers he was helping felt the same great lost that the officers and men of Delta Battery. There are few in this world today that are as noble and good as Staff SGT Norman C. Brubaker. I will never forget him.
